Remove Liquor Vends from the Sector Markets

Taking up the issue of nuisance, Chandigarh women and elderly face due to liquor vends and tavern in the sector markets, the Joshi Foundation today met the Governor Punjab, Haryana and Administrator UT Chandigarh Sh. Kaptan Singh Solanki demanding removal of liquor vends from the sector markets of the City Beautiful. The Foundation also demanded regulation of opening time for liquor vends from 12 noon to 7 pm, removal of hoardings/ decoration at liquor vends glorifying liquor and age criteria be strictly followed.

Chairman Joshi Foundation Vineet Joshi led the delegation of prominent citizens of Chandigarh that demanded removal of liquor vends & tavern from sector markets where general public visits to buy day-to-day items of needs. The delegation apprised administrator that Sector markets are used by the residents to buy grocery items, milk, bread, vegetables, fruits, books,  stationery, medicines, cosmetics, etc or items of daily need and presence of Liquor vends have become great source of nuisance for these residents in particular females. With these liquor vends & taverns comes up rehri/faddi selling tobacco products, eggs and fish etc, where people crowd them in inebriated state posing problems to the children and female visitors to market.

The delegation apprised administrator that till few years ago, there were no liquor shops/vends in the sector markets.                                                                 

Administrator was sympathetic and assured the delegation of an appropriate action, concluded Joshi.
